MEHR MENSCH ALS MENSCH: Gonzomechanics | Kunstfest Weimar
MEHR MENSCH ALS MENSCH (MORE HUMAN THAN HUMAN)
GONZOMECHANICS
VERNISSAGE: 24. August, 2024, 6 pm / 18 Uhr
Stockwerk e.V.
24 August - 6 September, 2024
(Wed. - Sat. Sa, 4 - 7 pm)
The project MEHR MENSCH ALS MENSCH (More Human Than Human) by Gonzomechanics aims to promote cultural exchange and diversity using the experiences of local communities and their stories to alter artificial intelligence (and therefore humanity). In short, using technology to become better humans.
Gonzomechanics is an international artist collective consisting of Caitlin Pickall, Chen Hangfeng, Kathryn Gohmert, Gökçen Dilek Acay and Laurent Lettrée, founded by artist Kathryn Gohmert. With a focus on interactive machines and installations, Gonzomechanics develops new forms of behavior and thought that result from viewer participation with its inventions.
During Kunstfest Weimar 2024, Gonzomechanics presents its first public project at Stockwerk Weimar and holds a series of events involving the local community. Through workshops and interactive performances, Gonzomechanics collects stories and experiences, using them as a starting point to subsequently diversify AI. In MEHR MENSCH ALS MENSCH, Gonzomechanics seeks to improve the world by using technology to enhance more empathy for other people and more visibility for the stories of the marginalized.
Gonzomechanics wants to destabilize the current trend of war by finding a way to create more understanding and connection between people using their art as a catalyst.
This project was generously funded by Kulturdirektion Weimar with cooperation from Lebenshilfe Weimar.

We want to take a stand because there is a lot at stake. On September 1, 2024, state elections will take place in Thuringia and Saxony, and a trend seems to be taking hold here too, which is currently occupying and dividing not only Germany and Europe, but also global politics. Populists and right-wing political currents are gaining more and more influence, and the causes and possible effects on politics, the economy and culture are being discussed at all levels.
The aim of this exhibition is to stand up for the fact that innovation, prosperity, cultural diversity and overall social responsibility can only flourish in a world characterized by internationality, equality and freedom.

BRAINS + MINDS: FUTURA CEREBRA + MINDSCAPES
Kathryn Gohmert & Yuni Lee
Artist Talk & Performance @Ro2 Art Gallery & EIGENHEIM Weimar
The mind and brain come together through two international solo exhibitions: FUTURA CEREBRA (Future Brains) of Kathryn Gohmert at EIGENHEIM in Weimar, Germany and MINDSCAPES of Yuni Lee at RO2 Art in Dallas, Texas. Both series and artists intersect on Feb 18 at an event live streamed at both galleries: Kathryn Gohmert performs Brain Chorus live at RO2 Art (amid the breathtaking MINDSCAPES paintings of Yuni Lee) on the finissage of her solo exhibition in Weimar. Yuni Lee and Kathryn Gohmert then both discuss in a live streamed artist talk, the different paths their work takes in exploring the brain and mind, and the goals, challenges and processes of their separate practices.
BRAIN CHORUS:
The video performance Brain Chorus mimes and explores the human journey, from birth into making connection, migration and then, finally, death. We navigate our lives in near chaos, constructing codes to turn nonsense into sense, finding and losing connection, hoping then aging then dying (before starting over, reborn into something else). The value of life is brought into sharp focus in this piece in appreciating death in its periphery. Original electronic score by Bakläxa. Special thanks to Johannes Heller.
Ro2 Art Gallery is a contemporary fine art gallery located in Dallas' Tin District, just West of Downtown Dallas, that represents a diverse group of emerging, mid-career, and established contemporary artists. The gallery, founded in 2010 by mother-and-son partners Susan Roth Romans and Jordan Roth, regularly collaborates with organizations such as The MAC and Cedars Union, and is a proud member of CADD - Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas.

Cover Art (in purple) | BELLSAINT'S "WFNEO"
A little late to the game in reposting this Partypartynails remix of the talented Bellsaintmusic’s anthem WFNEO — It’s been a part of my studio playlist this week and this version also features my work ‘Love and Terror’ (2010) with purple overtones.
Love and Terror is a mixed media work from 2010 that was inspired by Emerson’s words in ‘The Problem’ in which life is described as the physical cumulation of decisions we build around us like a house.
In this year of love and terror we’ve all experienced this work feels like an appropriate visual match to Bellsaint’s lyrics, which you can listen to here.
WFNEO lyric video | BELLSAINT
BELLSAINT’s gorgeous animated video for her new single WFNEO, runs its melody along a visual kaleidoscope that includes details from my mixed media work “Love and Terror” as complement to its empowering lyrics.
It’s a pleasure to have my work incorporated in the visual message of this grounding anthem.

Love and Terror Cover Art | BELLSAINT'S single "WFNEO"
Really proud to have the piece Love and Terror used as BELLSAINT’s cover art for her new single “WFNEO”.
Love and Terror is a mixed media work from 2010 that was inspired by Emerson’s words in ‘The Problem’ in which life is described as the physical cumulation of decisions we build around us like a house:
I couldn't be happier to collaborate with my sister, combining these two complimentary works and giving voice to an anthem calling for change based on our collective coming together in love and bravery. In her words:
We f*ing need each other.

inspired by the history of wild turkey hunting, i trained myself to speak the language of these birds in the wildlife of upstate new york over the course of one month. this experience evolved into a series of sound instruments, found object sculptures, drawings and a site-specific installation.
special thanks to the national wild turkey federation, kaylee resha, jerry parham, michael schiavone, brian zielinksi, gene miller, douglas little and residency 108 for their generous support with this body of work.

aera efas | sculpture intervention
about aera efas
this work is an on-site installation on a piece of land in jacksonville, texas, a location harboring increasing anti-immigration sentiment in the last several years.
this structure creates an enclosed space for a chosen subject; the area immediately beneath it is protected from all harmful elements in its surrounding environment.
as sunlight, additional nutrients, gasses necessary for plant life and new seeds are also stopped from entering the secured area, the natural result is a stagnation, decline and eventual decay of the life being contained.
life cannot exist without risk.
