"Rising stars" | Voyage Dallas

I’m so excited Voyage Dallas featured my story and work in their latest string of interviews with creative entrepreneurs.

Grateful I even got to touch on my artist collective Gonzomechanics, and our mission as well as my own personal focus on connection and the brain in this article.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Mid-Autumn Festival.

Contemporary Art Across Political Divides: Difficult Conversations | Cambridge Scholars Publishing

It's finally out! It was an honor to contribute to Contemporary Arts Across Political Divides: Difficult Conversations.

Special thanks to editors, Tijen Tunali and Alla Myzelev and Cambridge Scholars Publishing for their support in bringing this project to life.

Seeing the paper Malak Yacout and I co-wrote, "Entre Quatro Paredes", included with the writings of these other brilliant minds is such a rush, as is using the soft power of art to open important conversations.

"Entre Quatro Paredes (Between Four Walls)" was written about the performance by the same name Atsuko Mochida, Malak Yacout, Martina Jakobi and I performed in Weimar, Germany in 2017.

You are also warmly invited to the webinar/book launch of Contemporary Arts Across Political Divides: Difficult Conversations, hosted online by Columbia University on September 24, 9 - 10 am New York time (EDT). Register for the webinar online here.

interview "unterwegs in weimar" | mdr thüringen

So honored my FUTURA CEREBRA exhibition was a part of MDR Thüringen’s recent exploration of Weimar. It’s so nice to see my work on the walls surrounded by friends and holding a place in the cultural fabric of the place I call home. Love galerie eigenheim’s description too of their journey.

“Zwei Tage Weimar! Ohne die kulturellen „Platzhirsche“ Goethe, Schiller und Bauhaus! Steffi Peltzer-Büssow begegnet Künstlern, die ihr Schicksal in die Hand nahmen und „einfach“ eine eigene Galerie gründeten, das „Eigenheim“. “⁣

BRAINS + MINDS:   FUTURA CEREBRA + MINDSCAPES
Kathryn Gohmert & Yuni Lee
Artist Talk & Performance @Ro2 Art Gallery & EIGENHEIM Weimar

The mind and brain come together through two international solo exhibitions: FUTURA CEREBRA (Future Brains) of Kathryn Gohmert at EIGENHEIM in Weimar, Germany and MINDSCAPES of Yuni Lee at RO2 Art in Dallas, Texas. Both series and artists intersect on Feb 18 at an event live streamed at both galleries: Kathryn Gohmert performs Brain Chorus live at RO2 Art (amid the breathtaking MINDSCAPES paintings of Yuni Lee) on the finissage of her solo exhibition in Weimar. Yuni Lee and Kathryn Gohmert then both discuss in a live streamed artist talk, the different paths their work takes in exploring the brain and mind, and the goals, challenges and processes of their separate practices.

BRAIN CHORUS:
The video performance Brain Chorus mimes and explores the human journey, from birth into making connection, migration and then, finally, death. We navigate our lives in near chaos, constructing codes to turn nonsense into sense, finding and losing connection, hoping then aging then dying (before starting over, reborn into something else). The value of life is brought into sharp focus in this piece in appreciating death in its periphery. Original electronic score by Bakläxa. Special thanks to Johannes Heller.

futura cerebra | eigenheim weimar (solo)

my solo show ”FUTURA CEREBRA” OPENS THIS SATURDAY, JANUARY 7 AT EIGENHEIM WEIMAR with the newest work from my brain series.

vernissage: sATURDAY, january 7, 2023, 19- 22 uhr at asbachstr. 1, weimar.

“The paintings in the exhibition „Futura Cerebra“ are studies of the stimuli through which we experience the world. These stimuli (emotional, cognitive and physical) are the basis for our individual and collective perception and creation of our reality.

Kathryn Gohmert breaks down the interplay of these complex processes into their basic framework, using a representation of these processes in the form of diagrams and charts. Symbols (such as arrows, numbers or characters) develop their own code and context and refer to the interplay of cause and effect. Gohmert depicts the process of decoding these diagrams into these paintings.”

der zahn | galerie HELL Berlin (solo)

”der zahn” solo exhibition opens next week AT GALERIE HELL BERLIN and features my newest body of objects and drawings.

vernissage: sATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2022, 18 - 21 uhr at Spittastr. 2. (lichtenberg) Berlin.

”Primal dreams are the entryway to this haunting, autobiographical body of work.

What we see is what is between the dream and the physical form. What we think about is the space of the black depth of coal and ink. What we hear is copper singing through charred wood.

The event of a transformation into ashes will look like a specimen. It will look like the detached and intimate home movies that keep beats on a wall.”

locus anamnesis | virtual exhibition

The LOCUS ANAMNESIS virtual exhibition is online 29 January - 28 February, 2022.
⁣⁣⁣⁣
This newest series of drawings and paintings is a study of stimuli through which our minds experience the world. Complex processes are stripped to their bones, with their meaning broken down in diagrammatic space. Symbols create their own code as they point out roots and causes, mimicking the brain’s own process of sense-making on canvas.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⁣The title - LOCUS ANAMNESIS - references Plato’s theory that simulation and stimulation are the only way for humans to bring back the knowledge we lost when born. We are unlearning in order to learn again; losing in order to recover.⁣⁣⁣⁣
